June 2019 on FOCAC Coordinators Meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of The Gambia, Hon. Dr. Mamadou Tangara visited China in June 2019 to attend the Coordinators Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the First China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

2017 on the State Visit to China

In December 2017, H.E. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia paid a state visit to the People’s Republic of China.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia and the Minister of Foregin Affairs of China

In July, 2017 the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of The Gambia H.E. Ousainou Darboe, made an official visit to China. 

March, 2016

Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed a "Joint Communiqué Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of The Gambia on Resumption of Diplomatic Relations"

On March 17^th, 2016, the Republic of The Gambia and China resumed diplomatic ties. The bilateral cooperation between The Gambia and China has yielded tremendous fruits over a short period of time since the resumption of diplomatic ties. The Gambia adheres to the One-China principle and as such China is ready to work with The Gambia to continue steering bilateral ties and enhance political mutual trust.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed a "Joint Communiqué Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of The Gambia on Resumption of Diplomatic Relations" in Beijing with Former Foreign Minister Neneh MacDouall-Gaye of Gambia, and the two countries resumed diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level as of the date of the signing of the Joint Communiqué.

Dec., 1974

The People's Republic of China fist established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Gambia on December 14^th, 1974.

The Gambian Government established diplomatic ties with the Taiwan authority on July 13^th, 1995. Therefore, China had to suspend the diplomatic relations with The Gambia on July 25^th 1995.
