Exchanges and Cooperation in the fields of Culture, Science and Technology, Education, people-to-people exchanges and Military Affairs

 

China and Gambia signed a cultural agreement in April 1987. The Guizhou Acrobatic Troupe visited and performed in Gambia in December 1989.


Nanning City, Guangxi autonomous region, China, became a sister city with the city of Banjul in the Gambia in June 1987. After the restoration of diplomatic relations between Gambia and China, the Nanning Municipal Government and the cultural delegation visited the Gambia in July 2016. The Mayor of Banjul led a delegation to Nanning twice respectively in 2016 and September 2017.


The two countries signed a protocol on sending Chinese medical teams to work in The Gambia in August 1976. From October 1977 to March 1995, more than 200 Chinese medical personnel worked in The Gambia. In early June 2017, Chinese medical teams were resent to The Gambia.


From 1984 to 1995, China accepted 11 students from The Gambia on scholarship basis. After the restoration of diplomatic relations between Gambia and China in March 2016, 30 Gambian students who have received Chinese government scholarships have gone to China for study.


The number of Chinese Government scholarships awarded to Gambian students have increased and the Chinese government is committed to provide capacity building opportunities to Gambians.


In April 1991, General Xu Xin, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, leading a military delegation, visited Gambia.
